The colocosia coffee table was constructed for my mother living in Washington, DC. The table is english walnut with a black walnut base and cherry legs.

The edge is blackened with a torch and brushed to provide a smooth, clean finish.

The legs of the base splay outwards to provide the table with a minimal footprint. The table gets its name from the colocosia (elephant ear) leaf as the base emulates the growth patterns of it.

cherry bowties help stabilize the wood and prevent further splitting from stresses built up in the wood.

The Joinery is a 4 way half lap with bridle joints and blind tenons.

The coasters are a 3 part concrete design with built in channels for condensation. The bottom is cork lined.

The coasters connect together to form an intricate pattern and provide a space to rest a hotplate on the table.
